Hey there! My name is Katarina Wehmeyer and I will be your child’s second grade teacher! I am looking forward to a productive prosperous year together!
I welcome each and every one of you into my classroom this year. Parents involvement and communication is extremely vital to the teaching of children. I welcome you to participate during our numerous learning activities and ask that you volunteer your time to be a part of your child’s learning. One way you can volunteer is by becoming a Mystery Reader, which is someone who would come in during our Read Aloud/Silent Read time and surprise the students by reading them a book. I would also love your company during field trips and class parties.
This year, your child will be working on building their responsibility and organizational skills. I expect papers to be neatly organized in a binder and labeled folders. I expect clean desks and neat work. I expect children to go the extra mile, giving me more than minimal work. I am not a mean old witch, but I want your child to succeed. Please help me by reinforcing these skills at home.
Each night your child will bring home a daily folder. Inside, there will be two labeled sides- “Take Home”, and “Bring Back.” Coming home each night will be homework and announcements/notes. Coming back will be finished homework, any notes to be delivered to me, and signed permission slips. Make sure that you check each night for notes from me and that your child is remembering to do their homework. Each Friday, in the "Bring Back" pocket, you will find a "Check-Myself List. This list is a behavior checklist that is done everyday and is to be signed and returned on Monday. If there is a change in your child’s normal dismissal routine (i.e. someone else is going to pick them up) be sure that you send a change of dismissal note. Please be sure to send this folder back to school each day. This, of course should be your child’s responsibly, but until they are used to this, you may have to help in the beginning to establish a routine.
Each day I ask that you send a healthy snack (water is preferred instead of juice). I also except donations of books that you do not read/use anymore.
I update my website weekly/daily so be sure to check it out as often as possible. My website and email are my main sources of communication. I have everything on here from classroom procedures, to help with homework assignments, to important dates to remember. Please familiarize yourself with it, and use this as a tool to bridge the communication between school and home.
If you wish to contact me before school begins or anytime throughout the school year, you may email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I am really looking forward to becoming your child’s second grade teacher! This is going to be the best year yet!
